What We’re Reading This Month

Generative AI is a developer’s delight. Now, let’s find some other use cases –  Some people might think of generative artificial intelligence (AI) as a solution in search of a problem, but the technology is already proving its worth in one area: software development productivity. Close to half of technology professionals use generative AI to build applications. What’s more, one-third of IT staff use AI for data analytics. However, research suggests other business use cases are not quite ready. Article here.

What Is Strategy? For almost two decades, managers have been learning to play by a new set of rules. Companies must be flexible to respond rapidly to competitive and market changes. They must benchmark continuously to achieve best practice. They must outsource aggressively to gain efficiencies. And they must nurture a few core competencies in the race to stay ahead of rivals. What is Strategy?

In Ecuador’s Amazon rainforest, solar-powered boats are a boon for the trees – Shortly after sunrise, the students of Barrio San Luis begin their school run. Around a dozen girls and boys, wearing backpacks and carrying notepads in hand, hop down the muddy river bank and into the boat that provides their daily transport. Read more about the solar-powered boats.

How to Become a Better Strategic Thinker – A common piece of developmental feedback is the need to move from tactical to strategic thinking. But what does that look like?  The author, who has coached thousands of leaders to help develop their strategic thinking capabilities, has identified three core behaviors to work on: acumen (thinking), allocation (planning), and action (doing).
